Preserve the inspection evidence
An inspection-to-maintenance integration should preserve what failed, what was retested and who accepted the resulting work. A satisfactory retest can coexist with an unresolved corrective action. The test record should retain both observations and identify whether the approved disposition requires new maintenance work. This proposed design links an inspection evidence record to native SAP quality and maintenance objects through BTP. Its API reference baseline is S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition 2608, subject to qualification in the customer's actual release and configuration.
The available MinMax evidence supports versioned inspection definitions, retained failed observations and retests, findings and independent report approval in local workflows. It does not establish native QM results posting, SAP order completion or a Joule execution. The design must qualify those connections individually before a field or quality team relies on the handoff.
Map the native SAP objects
Begin with an explicit object crosswalk. Record the inspected asset, plant, source maintenance order and operation, inspection definition revision, instrument identity, reading timestamp and finding reference. Where the process uses a native QM inspection lot, map its actual lot, operation and characteristic keys. An equipment condition assessment is not automatically a material quality inspection. The functional owner must establish the correct native object for each inspection type.
SAP's API_INSPECTIONLOT_SRV exposes lot reads through A_InspectionLot and status reads through A_InspectionLotWithStatus. Its operations distinguish results recording, usage decisions and stock postings. Change operations require If-Match, and change sets are constrained by entity type and a single write per entity. Preserve the current ETag and reject stale submissions. Inspection Lot operations define these boundaries.
Maintenance work has a separate contract. API_MAINTENANCEORDER_0002 is an OData V2 service supporting order-data creation, reading, updating and deletion. Confirm every proposed status transition, operation field and release action against target metadata. Generic order-data support does not establish automatic completion or technical release. The handoff should carry the approved finding and source references, then retain the resulting native order key. Maintenance Order Version 2 is a candidate interface.
Route the approved work
In the proposed BTP flow, an authenticated submission enters API Management, then a Cloud Integration flow validates mapping, units, revision and required evidence. Build Process Automation routes the finding and proposed work to the responsible engineer. A durable request ledger tracks the approved action and target outcome. If events trigger work, consumers need duplicate handling and fresh state checks because Event Mesh delivery can repeat and order is not universally guaranteed. SAP Event Mesh protocols describe these limitations.
The candidate Joule skill is Explain inspection finding and prepare work request. It retrieves permitted evidence and identifies missing readings or a superseded definition. It may prepare a bounded proposal. Qualified people retain report acceptance, usage-decision and return-to-service authority. Verify Joule edition, capability availability and user-to-backend access before enabling the skill.
Test the accepted handoff
Acceptance should exercise a failed observation followed by a passing retest, a changed source operation, stale ETag, unit mismatch, restricted plant and a timeout after SAP accepted the write. Require the original failure to remain traceable, each SAP outcome to have a reconciled native key, and an independent reviewer to reconstruct the decision. Measure evidence completeness and unresolved handoffs separately from inspection completion. The related public offering is MinMax Inspection Intelligence.
